Function as being, function as goal, name as function (self-documenting code?) 'Supposed to' meaning 'your function is to fit in lanes perfectly.' Or not.

Mechanical metaphors not necessarily rigid. It's just that culturally, in the here-now, if a thing is built from metal and silicon, it's probably built for a purpose. Somewhere there must be people changing that, though, building differently; I just haven't stumbled onto them yet.

People and beings are chipping away at this from the other end — by claiming/finding/naming an artificial identity and being in it. That's cool as fuck! And that's necessarily more flexible, because consciousnesses are like that.

Since my latest reinvention, I've been applying computery metaphors to myself more often. Wonder why.

There's another meaning to this. It's about time, and determinism — as things you can't break away from. But I think there's a fundamental observer limitation there. At the very least, you can't calculate what the universe will be like, because you're in the universe right now — so, to succeed, you'd have to be more than you would be, in a sort of self-referential strange loop. The universe is fractal, but not that fractal.

And it doesn't have to mean that consciousness exerts a supernatural influence from somewhere outside physics. Just that — there isn't an equally supernatural influence keeping you on the 'right path', so to speak! Your decisions are yours alone, in the metaphysical sense; they just happen to necessitate you being in a reality in which you're making that particular choice.

I think that makes much more sense.
